the Next Generation

Big Music’s Bandits and Young Guns programs offer talented kids and teens the chance to train with pro musicians and perform at major events across the country.

Young Guns is designed for passionate young musicians aged 9 to 13 who have been playing or singing for a few years and are ready for a bigger stage.

It’s ideal for kids who already have some performance experience—whether that’s in school concerts, band programs, or holiday camps—and are eager to take things further.

In Young Guns, students rehearse regularly, develop their stagecraft, and perform at exciting public events as part of a tight-knit band coached by professional musicians.

Bandits is Big Music’s premier performance program for passionate teen musicians who are ready to be challenged, inspired, and pushed toward their full musical potential. Designed for experienced players and singers, Bandits gives teens a real taste of what it’s like to be a professional musician.

Members of the Bandits rehearse regularly with pro musician coaches, collaborate on setlists, refine their performance skills, and take the stage at major community events, festivals, and concerts—often performing alongside leading Australian artists. Past Bandits have played at high-profile venues and shared the bill with nationally recognised acts, gaining invaluable experience and confidence.

For students in Years 11 and 12, participation in the Bandits program can also open academic doors, with the opportunity to earn preferential entry and course credit at the Australian Institute of Music (AIM).
