Starting in 2009 Big Music has been responsible for bringing live music to Lord Howe Island!
Big Music founder, David Berkman, has been the driving force behind the Lord Howe Island Rockfest, a weeklong annual festival of music. Rockfest has become the largest event on the islands calendar.
Big Music also supplies instruments for the school children on the Island and in 2018 was internationally recognised for its work in the community, receiving the Music Makes a Difference award at the NAMM top 100 Dealers Awards in Nashville.
Big Music, in conjunction with the Variety Children's charity, runs the Variety Kids Choir. The choir is an inclusive vocal group for young people aged 12 to 18 who share a love of music, singing and performing.
Kids with a talent for singing, who are living with disability, disadvantage or special needs are encouraged to apply. Choir-members attend fortnightly rehearsals at Big Music under the guidance of our expert vocal coaches.
The Big Music Bandits are the best of the best under 18 musicians amongst our 800 weekly students and Big Music performance programs.
The Bandits are an elite group of kids that get to play live at community events and travel to support some huge shows around Australia and even overseas!
They serve as an inspiration for what Big Music students can strive for in their musical pursuits, serving as a key contributors to the Big Music community and what it stands for.
The Bandits are continually given opportunities throughout each year to play alongside some industry legends at spectacular shows around the country, on national television, and at professional shows and festivals.
