Book Gene Maynard for a Lesson

Gene Maynard started playing music with pots and pans and wooden spoons as a very young child.  At age 10 he commenced drum lessons with one of Australia's most respected drum teachers, Milan Troha. A percussion lesson with Don Burrows and George Golla at the Australian Museum and several lessons with David Jones at Drum Camps confirmed the fact that he has "Rhythm in His Bones". A year later he officially began his music career by playing in his father's Jazz combo at restaurants and wedding receptions, which continued for the next 5 years. At 16 Gene joined a rockabilly band as a "Stand-Up" drummer and over the next 10 years played numerous pubs, clubs and outdoor festivals with various Rock & Roll, Punk, Jazz, Bluegrass, Rockabilly/Psychobilly and 'Cover' Bands. 

From the age of 21 he began studying other instruments including guitar, harmonica, electric bass and piano. By age 35 as a session musician he had recorded and released over 11 albums and 15 E.P's.  He has also worked with successful artists such as The Dekroo Brothers, Johhny Devlin, Robin Gist (Girl Overboard), Dave Graney, Ed Clayton-Jones & Hugo Race (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds/The Wreckery), Peter Milton Walsh (The Apartments) and Bosco Bosinac (The Atlantics). 

As band director/conductor for senior and junior bands at Seaforth Primary School, Gene toured with the school group across Australia and New Caledonia.  He currently divides his time between teaching drums, band coaching and working as a drummer/vocalist in 5 bands and guitarist/vocalist/harmonica player in 2 bands.
