The Big Music Story

When Dave Berkman was turning 50 he wanted to fulfill a dream - to perform on stage in a rock band with his kids, in front of his wider family and friends.  There was just one problem, Dave wasn’t in a band and didn’t know the first thing about how to put a band together.  So he called his mate, Scott Sheppard, who was the front man in a popular Sydney covers band, Wet Zelko.  

A plan was hatched and after several weeks of rehearsals, the big night came.  Dave and his kids, supported by Scotty and some of the other Wet Zelko band members, performed a set at Dave’s 50th birthday party to over 100 screaming guests who proclaimed “that’s the coolest thing I’ve ever seen, how can I do that!?”

That idea became the driving force behind Big Music.  To create a business which gives everyday people the opportunity to fulfill their musical dreams and “do it for real”.  Over a few cups of coffee, Dave and Scott roughed out a plan.  Dave's brother Rich, a number cruncher, formed a trio and together they decided to give it a go.  

A few years down the track, and after many millions invested in creating a music store that is unlike any other in the world, Big Music has already helped 1000’s of people of all ages and walks of life to pursue their musical aspirations. 

Big Music Today

Today, Big Music is a one-stop shop that brings music lovers’ dreams to life by uniquely combining an extensive retail store with a fully equipped modern music school for kids and adults, state-of-the-art recording studio, rehearsal studios and a super cool rock band performance space.  The result is a place where people can express themselves artistically, learn, grow and ‘do it for real’.  If you want to join a band, learn to play guitar, drums, bass or reach your full vocal potential, Big Music is the place for you.
